There are a few things to consider to determine whether contacts are a good option for you
1. You need an up-to date prescription and eye examination
An eye exam ensures your overall eye health is suitable for contact lens wear. You spectacle prescription is the starting point for your contact lens prescription. Quite often your contact lens prescription is different than your glasses prescription, as the lens sits on your eye - as opposed to glasses where the lens is a small distance away from your eye. Dialing in your contact lens prescription is critical to gaining optimal performance for vision and comfort.
2. Measurements and fit matters!
“One-size-fits-all, never really fits anyone very well.” Contact lenses come in different curvatures, diameters and styles. You need to have accurate measurements taken of your corneas (the front of your eyes) so the best fit of lens can be chosen just for you. You also need a qualified contact lens fitter to check the lenses on your eyes to make sure they are sitting correctly. If the contacts are too tight or too loose, it can cause complications later. Our Optometrist will perform all of these measurements and checks here at our office in North Vancouver as part of your contact lens fitting.
3. Proper instruction on how to insert, remove and care for your contacts and eyes is vital to comfortable, long term use.
For some people putting things into their eyes is easy! For most of us though, it can be tough, especially the first time. Our team has several proven techniques and tricks to make insertion and removal a breeze. We will take the time to coach you through this and we guarantee it will become easier over time (practice makes perfect!) Finally taking care of your contacts and your eyes is critical. We’ll provide coaching on how to do this and recommend solutions or eye drops that make your contact lens experience even better!
4. Trial lenses - So many kinds of contact lenses!
Just as each one of us is unique, so are our eyes. The style of contact lens that works for someone you know may not work for you. A proper contact lens fitting includes trial contact lenses best suited to your eyes and lifestyle (Do you have a high prescription? Do you only want to wear them twice a week for mountain biking? Do you want to wear them every day because your glasses always get dirty?) We have tried all of these options and can consult with you to determine the best option. Your contact lens prescription will only then be finalized once the best type of lens is selected to ensure optimum all-day comfort and vision.
SPECIAL BONUS: If you choose to purchase your contacts within 30 days of finalizing your contact lens prescription from Eye Craft Optometry, we will apply a $75 credit towards your first purchase !
